Claire A Hoey - Founder & CEO

Ms. Hoey established Pangolin Claddagh in 2018 to provide a bespoke and personalised advisory service to global clients, with a particular focus on China, the Middle East and Africa. 


Ms. Hoey was part of the founding team of Ion Pacific in 2015. Ion Pacific is a Hong Kong merchant bank, focusing on Chinese capital seeking strategic investments overseas. Ms. Hoey was Head of EMEA and based in London. Ms. Hoey worked with the global team to establish a presence for the firm in Europe, and to position the firm for success in the Middle East and Africa. During her tenure at Ion Pacific, Ms. Hoey advised House of Fraser on the £800m sale to a Chinese conglomerate, the largest ever outbound M&A transaction in the Consumer Retail sector at the time. 


In 2012, Ms. Hoey founded Vita nel Lusso, an independent advisory firm which provided strategic advice to companies seeking capital and geographic expansion, specifically in relation to Asia. Ms. Hoey advised clients in Consumer Retail, Natural Resources, Real Estate and Healthcare.

 

Between 2008 and 2011, Ms. Hoey spent three years at Rothschild, where she advised the Irish Government on the EUR 50bn recapitalisation of its banking sector through the global financial crisis. This included assisting in the management of overall State regulatory risk. The refinancing arrangements between the Irish State and the IMF, the EFSF and the EFSM, the recapitalisations and equity structuring of Allied Irish Banks, Bank of Ireland and Irish Life & Permanent, the nationalisation and restructuring of Anglo Irish Bank and Irish Nationwide Building Society, the implementation of the EUR 5bn burden sharing with subordinated debt holders through liability management exercises, and the largest ever rights issue in Irish corporate history for Bank of Ireland. 


Ms. Hoey started her career in 2002 as a member of the Financial Institutions M&A team at Lehman Brothers, where she worked on a series of high profile capital raises and mergers and acquisitions, including advising The London Stock Exchange on five defences against hostile takeover approaches between 2003 and 2006. 


Throughout her career, Ms. Hoey has advised on deals with a total value in excess of $100bn.
